Troy Smith Honored with Don Wolf Award by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana
Indiana Physical Therapy (IPT) co-owner and physical therapist Troy Smith was honored with the Don Wolf Award at the 2026 Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana Gourmet Dinner in recognition of his longstanding commitment to mentoring, community leadership, and youth development throughout Northeast Indiana.
A graduate of Woodlan High School, Troy’s path to physical therapy began with a classroom presentation that sparked a lifelong passion for helping others. That moment led him to the University of Indianapolis, where he earned his degree while competing as a collegiate wide receiver.
In 1994, Troy joined Indiana Physical Therapy, becoming co-owner just two years later. Alongside his partners, he helped grow the organization from four clinics into a leading independent provider with 17 locations across 12 counties, delivering patient-centered care throughout Northern Indiana.
Throughout his career, Troy has remained committed to professional excellence and continued learning. Specializing in spine care, industrial rehabilitation, and sports injury recovery, he holds advanced credentials as a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist (COMT), Athletic Trainer, and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. His work within the profession has also earned recognition from his peers, including the Certo Award for distinguished contributions to the field of physical therapy.
That same commitment to service extends beyond patient care and into the communities Indiana Physical Therapy serves every day. IPT actively supports organizations and events that promote healthy living and uplift children, families, and individuals facing significant challenges. From local 5Ks and school partnerships to nonprofits focused on mentorship and youth development, Troy and the IPT team continue to support initiatives including 4-H, Girls on the Run, PlayLikeBray, and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Indiana Physical Therapy’s commitment to community involvement is also reflected through hands-on volunteer efforts. Through organized service days, IPT staff members volunteer their time with organizations including Blessings in a Backpack, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the New Haven Parks Department, reinforcing a culture of service throughout the organization.
Troy’s connection to Big Brothers Big Sisters began long before his years of leadership within the organization. As a teenager, he attended the annual Gourmet Dinner with his uncle, the late Louis Delagrange, an experience that helped shape his lifelong passion for mentorship and community investment.
That early exposure later evolved into leadership service with the organization. Troy joined the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana Board of Directors in 2006 and went on to serve as both Board Vice President and President. During his time as Board President, the organization experienced record growth, serving 2,016 children in 2012 and expanding its reach to more youth throughout the region.
In addition to his leadership roles, Troy and his partners at Indiana Physical Therapy were early advocates for helping the organization expand its impact and visibility. Their continued support as sponsors helped elevate major fundraising events and bring nationally recognized speakers and talent to the Gourmet Dinner, increasing awareness and engagement throughout Northeast Indiana and beyond.
Today, the partnership between Indiana Physical Therapy and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana continues to support thousands of children, families, volunteers, and mentorship opportunities each year. As a Big Impact Partner and premier event sponsor, IPT has helped support signature fundraising events including Bowl for Kids’ Sake and the Brad Miller Gala & Golf Outing.
Troy’s commitment to mentorship also remains deeply personal. In addition to his leadership and advocacy, he has served as both a volunteer Real Men Reader and Big Brother, and is currently matched with his Little Brother, Amsler. His example continues to encourage others throughout the community to invest in the lives of young people through mentorship and service.
Indiana Physical Therapy congratulates Troy on receiving the Don Wolf Award and is proud to celebrate his lasting impact on both the profession of physical therapy and the Northeast Indiana community.
