Therapy Shouldn’t be a Painful Process
Every now and then we hear patients remark about how previous episodes of physical therapy left them in more pain than when they started. This pain was different than soreness from strengthening and conditioning. It was more of the kind of pain they were trying to alleviate. Lasting soreness or pain after physical therapy is something that therapists are always trying to avoid on the road to recovery.
If a patient’s pain is worse from therapy, chances are something needs to be changed with the treatment program. At IPT, we work with open lines of communication with our patients so we can get an understanding of their response to our treatment, and monitor our time spent on each area so that we create positive reaction instead of irritation.
Our goal at Indiana Physical Therapy is to get you back to doing the things you love as effectively as possible. Many patients fear that this process will be a painful one, full of pushing outside of their comfort level. Your recovery should be quick as possible, but we will not sacrifice comfort and safety for the sake of speed.
Painful sessions will only make patients dread their treatment program and will lead to harmful deviations or neglect of their treatment program. We believe our patients should walk away from our sessions feeling excited about their progress and looking forward to their next visit. That is our promise to our patients, and a cornerstone of the IPT difference.
