Physical Therapy:
Vestibular Rehabilitation
This type of rehabilitation treats vertigo and balance
disorders caused by the loss of vestibular function, free
floating debris in the semicircular canals of the inner
ear (also known as BPPV), and unsteadiness that can result
from prolonged inactivity.
Physical therapy intervention involves an initial evaluation
of the patient's musculoskeletal system, balance and gait
assessment, and a vertigo assessment. An appropriate intervention
program is then developed which could include the following:
Habituation and compensation exercises and strategies
Balance retraining
Repositioning maneuvers to clear the semi-circular canals
Strengthening and stretching exercises to regain stability
and mobility
Vestibular rehabilitation is customized to each patient
and will emphasize independent exercises done at home
with regular follow-up visits to monitor the patient's
progress. Vestibular rehabilitation typically occurs over
a four to eight week period; some patients may be seen
more or less frequently, depending upon their level of
dysfunction and their individual need for correction of
musculoskeletal problems.

of therapy at their clinics located at 2516 E. Dupont
Road. Contact us at (260) 490-4800 for more information
